Jeremy Nash played in the USA Rugby Men’s Club Sevens National Championship, as one of roughly 180 elite players filling the rosters of 16 teams at Bellingham Polo and Rugby Grounds near Ferndale in August 2007
Jeremy was a national team player, lining up for the 2006 U.S. Eagles in matches held in San Francisco and Edmonton, Alberta. The summer before, he played in five matches in 11 days for an American entry that lost to South Africa in the championship match of the Maccabiah Games in Israel.
Nash, finds himself among a select group of Northwest ruggers who have played at the national level in this sport, a list that includes many other Eagles
A Garfield High School and Washington alumnus, Nash became involved in rugby because his father, Larry, 54, played it. The son, his brother, and their sister each accompanied Dad to Seattle Rugby Club matches at Green Lake, hung out at the team clubhouse, and eventually started competing themselves.
“Because I was around it so long, it was second nature to me,” Jeremy Nash said.
Also a Garfield wrestler and soccer player, he used to skip out of games at halftime in the latter sport to play in rugby contests held at the same time, drawing protests from his high school coach.A solidly built 5-foot-9, 195-pound athlete, he has been well suited for rugby, serving as captain of his UW rugby team; a two-time Pacific Coast Grizzly, or West Coast select player; a two-time Midwest select player, and being named 2006 most valuable player for the Chicago Lions.
