Seth Cohen
Seth began his rugby career at Bentley University in 2003. Seth played his first season at prop and then found his home in the pack as a second row. Seth held several positions on the e-board for Bentley during his time at Bentley. Seth ended his college career with back-to-back undefeated Division 3 championship seasons. He moved to NYC in 2007 and joined the New York Athletic Club. Seth was part of 3 championship teams during his time at NYAC. Under the coaching of Mike Tolkin and Bruce McLane, Seth worked tirelessly to earn a starting spot on the first team after beginning his time with NYAC primarily on the second team. Seth played for NYAC from 2007-2017, with the exception of the two years he lived in Sydney Australia. He attempted to test his skills with Sydney University in the Shute Shield competition but a serious hamstring injury during the preseason prevented him from playing down under.
Connection to Maccabi USA Rugby
Seth learned of the Maccabi Rugby program in a very unconventional way. During the 2008 season with NYAC, Rob Perle overheard his teammates joking with him about being Jewish after a Mother’s Day Tournament match and the rest is history. Rob introduced himself and urged Seth to try out for the 2009 team later that summer. Initially Seth was hesitant but ultimately took Rob’s advice and was fortunate enough to be selected for the 2009 Maccabi Team. Seth was selected for the 2009 (Bronze), 2013 (Bronze), and 2017 (GOLD) Maccabiah Games. Maccabi USA Rugby holds a very special place in Seth’s heart and those three tours, along with all of his teammates, have made an everlasting impression on his life.
